new kid on the block: lilajay’s baked goods.

Oh, goodness. When there’s a new kid on the gluten-free block, you KNOW we’ve gotta get up in there and test out some sweets. Right?

la vera pizza.

Back in the day, one of us Lab gals worked at La Vera Pizza in downtown Santa Rosa as a young waitress slingin’ pies. This was prior to a celiac disease diagnosis, so most shifts ended with a slice (or three). Oh how we miss pizza — after 13 years of being gluten-free, it’s still at the top of our cravings list.

annie’s celebrates celiac disease awareness month.

Here’s the thing about Annie’s products: they stand for something, and they always have.

wholesome chow gf mixes.

Wholesome Chow is a relatively new line of baking mixes we’ve seen hitting shelves, and while all of their mixes are organic and vegan — with fairly-sourced and high-quality ingredients — a handful of these mixes are also gluten free. Twofer!

pasta prima gluten-free ravioli.

It seems like we always hear about new gluten-free items appearing in the vast aisles at Costco. We get super excited, make a trip during the craziest weekend hours, and then we aren’t able to unearth what we were there for in the first place, yet wind up checking out for hundreds of dollars. WTF, how does that happen?!

fresh-from-the-garden penne margherita.

This time of year is a tomato time of year in northern California. We pull copious numbers of still-warm tomatoes straight off the vine. Some get canned. Some get made into sauce. Some get eaten right there in the garden, our bodies bent at the waist, the juices falling back into the earth.

cruncha ma·me edamame veggie snack.

Snacks. Truth be told, we hate ‘em just as much as we love ‘em. Seems like as soon as a meal’s finished and cleaned up, the ol’ tum starts rumbling again. Curses on our appetites!

dutch baby. OR german pancake.

Could a breakfast GET any better than a Dutch Baby (aka German Pancake) hot out of the oven, garnished with nothing more than drippingly sweet peaches?!

No. No, it could not.

In light of the holiday weekend, we urge you to give this one a go, and to enjoy it again and again. Saturday with berries and powdered sugar; Sunday with vanilla yogurt and sliced peaches; Monday with cooked apples with cinnamon, sugar and walnuts. You pretty much can’t go wrong.

throw-together chicken tacos.

So many of our summer weekends are jam-packed with events. Birthday parties, backyard barbeques, brunches. And when we happen to be the hosts of one or more of these events, HOO-nelly! Are we ever left with some leftovers! Turns out that leftovers are actually a really great thing for a busy working week. A bit of leftover cooked meat can be transformed into a completely new dish; some leftover veggies can be stirred into a freshly cooked pot of quinoa for a new and exciting one-bowl meal; leftover wine can help with the culinary creativity.

burgers. on gluten-free buns!

How long’s it been since you’ve had a hamburger? We’re not talking some protein-style In-N-Out burger here; we’re talking bun and all. A REAL hamburger you make out of ground chuck, cook over open fire, and stack high with sharp cheddar cheese, red onions, juicy red tomatoes and all the fixin’s, fries on the side. Num.
