The Missing Menu is an up-and-coming resource to help people with food allergies – not just gluten-free folks – dine out safely. Simply plug in your coordinates and enjoy the fruits of The Missing Menu’s labors. This resource is still in its infancy, and only two regions are really fleshed out, so if you’re lucky enough to live in Denver, Colo. or the San Francisco Bay Area, you’ll get to reap the benefits. But not to worry! Regions that will be featured in the near future include Atlanta, Chicago, L.A., Northern Colorado and Philadelphia.

You’ve been craving fondue, right? Now that the weather in California has turned brisk and decidedly fall-like, you’re looking for a way to get your comfort food on, maybe with your loved one(s) in tow. A reader (who also happens to be the founder at Camp Celiac and the mother of the baker behind Miglet’s Gluten Free Bakery…but no big whoop) recently turned our attention to Simply Fondue in Livermore, Calif. We haven’t ventured down there yet, but the reports we’ve heard are enough to make us eke out the time in our busy schedules for a fondue fieldtrip.

Diavola Pizzeria in Geyserville, Calif., how we love you. We love you for your house-cured meats, your thoughtful and deeply delicious menu, and now we’re smitten with your house-made gluten-free pizza, which is crackery yet substantial, a perfect underpinning for truly Italian-style toppings. We love that you make the dough in-house. We love that you offer any of your pizzas – ANY of them! – with a gluten-free option. We love that you make us a Sicilian pizza with eggplant & cherry tomatoes & a heavy dose of je ne sai quoi on the fly, even though it’s not on the menu (shhhh, readers, don’t tell!).

Have you heard? Bistro 29 in Santa Rosa, California is now making their buckweat crêpes sans wheat flour! That means you can go, order, and eat just like the rest of the folks in the restaurant: Unabashedly and to contentment.
And, apart from those crêpes we’ve always wanted to try (now we can! yay!), there are plenty of menu items that are gluten-free, just ask your server to be your guide.

It can be daunting to have planned a fun summertime vacation and realize that while you’re on vacation you’ll have to eat. At a restaurant. In an unfamiliar town.
Here at The Lab we like to do a lot of research before we head to a new place. We look for blogs like our own that can point us to GF-friendly eateries, and we take advantage of online resources like Yelp to try and find GF-categorized restaurants.

These little cupcakes might look a wee bit familiar to you. The Lab had a very official taste-test a few months ago, at which we deemed Miglet’s a cupcake superstar.
So help ring in the new retail shop, wouldja? There will be cupcake eating contests, coloring, balloons & other fun activities!

Our local readers probably know a thing or two about the Union Hotel. The establishment holds a legendary spot in downtown Occidental, and its roots as a family-fun restaurant are five generations deep. It’s been awhile since we’ve enjoyed what the Union Hotel has to offer (that whole Italian pasta & bread & pizza thing gets in the way for us GF folks), but today we’re reporting some new & exciting news. Starting today, look for a gluten-free pasta option at the Mission Boulevard location. Hooray! Now we can twist & slurp our noodles with the rest of ‘em.
