burgers. on gluten-free buns!
August 3, 2011

How long’s it been since you’ve had a hamburger? We’re not talking some protein-style In-N-Out burger here; we’re talking bun and all. A REAL hamburger you make out of ground chuck, cook over open fire, and stack high with sharp cheddar cheese, red onions, juicy red tomatoes and all the fixin’s, fries on the side. Num.
For some of us it’s been a long, long while since we’ve had that kind of burger, and last night we pulled out all the stops to ensure the ultimate burger experience. It consisted of, in this order:
- Rudi’s gluten-free multigrain hamburger buns
- secret sauce (our house version of this is a nice big dollop of Trader Joe’s tartar sauce with dill & jalapeño, nearly as much organic ketchup [it really does taste different!], an even smaller amount of Dijon mustard, and a mite bit of relish)
- homegrown red onion, sliced thin
- ground chuck seasoned with organic ketchup, salt & pepper and formed into 1/4-pound patties
- extra-sharp cheddar cheese
- homegrown heirloom tomato, sliced thick
- mixed greens
- more secret sauce

And then we wished we had these for dessert.
